one reason politics is such a fermenting cesspool in this country is because neither side can argue against what the other side actually  says.  They have to invent the absolute worst possible interpretation of it (i.e. construct a strawman) and rail against that instead.

I don’t believe in all her policies but the video of her setting everyone up with the five minute game about how easy it is for congress and any president to be corrupt af is fucking awesome. Even if her policies aren’t all the best, she seems like she actually wants to drain the swamp and isn’t just trying to get rich, and thats the biggest thing I ask. Anyone in government service trying to actually serve is good imo even if I disagree with them, fuck all the assholes just getting rich

I do a have a Captain America shirt with an American flag and “Freedom” in large letters. I imagine that it would be best to avoid wearing something like that somewhere like Iran.

Cutting yourself off from competing viewpoints is never a real solution. I read Fox News everyday; I don’t agree with how they cover some news but at least I know how other people see things.

The green new deal isn’t even legislation  but it’s a good conversation to have about how we could view taking on the problem.

Ive been doing that for a couple years but I m just really getting turned off the whole Gawker media thing. Its not just the political stuff though, the journalistic integrity is basically non-existent anymore . I do despise AOC though because I’ m a far-right libertarian. She is so far on the other side of the spectrum that her words are anathema to me. *shrugs* guess im just easily offended but the truth is there are better places to get accurate car news anyways. I still love oppo  though cause we’re awesome :)

term limits c ould cure a lot of those ills. Short term politicians would ideally try and make a name doing something positive...then move on to the money circuit. Currently they benefit from being steadily in the pockets of lobbyists and special interest groups so it pays them to move the wheels slowly, backwards or not at all.

Of course corruption always finds a way...but it’s harder to stay mostly corrupt if the players are in constant flux . Campaign finance is the other side of it, we shouldn’t be swayed by sheer volume exposure due to large piles of money. All candidates should have equal budgets and equal exposure.

Is it that hard to take her other ideals on something out of the question; and focus on the article that really states this goal that doesn’t impact cars?  They were blogging about cars.

I too don’t agree with most of her agendas, that would be financial catastrophe, but I can read informative articles and leave my bias aside.

Socialism and Communism look good on paper, but they never take into account the inherent evilness of human beings, nor their ability to feel greed or avarice.

That said, I don’t think it’s “socialism” for every person in our country to have things like healthcare or guaranteed pensions, like other developed countries.

I mean you can keep up your “fuck you, I got mine” rhetoric that is prevalent among American Libertarians,  but not being able to breathe in twenty-thirty years is going to affect us all. It’s something we all need to deal with whether we like it or not, regardless of our political leanings.

I still feel like she needs to dial it back, though. I’m a liberal, so I’m all for these ideas, alone, and in principle. But I was a poly sci major, so I know there are realities with our systems of government that she and these new politicians need to work within. Sure, I’d love to blow up the system, but we live in the real world.

I’m just afraid that this proposal is too broad and ambitious and will just turn people away and not even get the chance to start discussions.

Have you noticed how there’s never an actual plan or a solution for anything she says? Just vague, generalized statements? Feelings over facts was definitely my favorite.

Now she is a big shot politician - time to actually do something. She doesn’ t have to advertise any longer, she’s been elected already.

I lived in a socialist country for 19 years. No one is moving to socialist countries if they can help it.

So you’re saying she should now stop pursuing the same ideas that got her elected? I think one of the problems with politicians is that once they get elected, they become “big shot politicians”. I don’t agree with a lot of her policy stances, but not becoming another “big shit politician” is not something I’d knock her for.

Also, not sure if you’ve noticed in your last nineteen years here, but there is a zero percent chance of America becoming a socialist nation. What makes this country great is that we allow for a plethora of ideas to flourish, something that state sponsored socialism disallows.
